Hi there! Can you believe I’m 5 months old? Seems like only yesterday I was cozy in Mommy’s tummy and swimming in a warm bath of amniotic fluid… all footloose and fancy free. Ah the good ol days! So here’s what I’ve accomplished so far in my 5 months on the outside….
- I can roll front to back and back to front.
- I found my feetsies and they are mesmerizing! And quite tasty to boot!
- I smile and laugh and babble – A lot!
- I can maintain a sitting-up position unassisted for a short time.
- I reach for things and can hold them tight – Especially people and animal hair! I also like to see if I can fit everything in my mouth!
- I started solid foods! So far I’ve had rice cereal and organic peas (yuck!) and organic peaches that daddy made for me –Yummy, yummy, yummy!!!! I can’t get enough of those peaches! (Mommy thinks it is because she ate a lot of Ben and Jerry’s - Willie Nelson’s County Peach Cobbler ice cream when she was pregnant.)
- I started a sleep schedule and all of my napping issues have magically disappeared! I take two, two hour naps in the morning and afternoon and I sleep in my big boy crib from 7:30 at night to 7:00AM. I get one or two feedings in the middle of the night to hold me over until morning. I resisted the schedule quite fiercely at first (as it turns out I have a LOUD voice – Mommy says I get that from Daddy), but thanks to Mommy and Daddy’s determination, we all sleep a lot better now!
- I am an accomplished jumper and have developed both rhythm and technique.
- I love to make motor boat sounds and raspberries with my mouth. This usually involves lots of drool and bubbles.
- I take big boy baths with Mommy and I love to kick my feet and splash the water!
- I can stand while holding onto Mommy and Daddy’s fingers and/or a chair or table – Who wants to bet I’ll be walking by 9 months??
- I weigh a whopping 19.1 pounds and am wearing 9 month old baby clothes!
Still teething but those stubborn toothies continue to be elusive!
Last Friday I got another vaccination… This time I knew what to expect so I was ready when the devil nurse stabbed me in the thigh with the giant needle/harpoon… This time I decided that I wouldn’t give her the pleasure of seeing me cry… So I looked into Mommy’s eyes… held my breath… made a terrible grimace and then… smiled! I could tell the devil nurse was disappointed but Mommy was SO proud of me! She looked like she was about to cry… Maybe the devil nurse stuck her too…
On October 10th, we hosted a dinner party for our adopted Portland, Oregon family – Auntie LaVonne’s dad, mom and sister. I finally got to meet Dave, Diane and Rhonda Sowles! They gave me so much love and Diane made me an amazing afghan! It was a great time - Aunties Stef and Heather and Uncle Eric were there too! Daddy made a delicious BBQ and we all partied until the wee hour of 7:30PM! Well I did anyway… I suspect everyone else continued to have fun while I was asleep…
I also saw a couple of special doctors this month. Apparently I have a flat spot on my head (though I can’t be sure because it’s in the back and I can’t see it) from sleeping on my back. So I’ll be getting a cool helmet thing (called a DOC Band) to help my head grow back to round. I go in today for the imaging and then I will begin wearing the band in 2 weeks. Mommy and Daddy are going to have it painted with cool stuff so I can’t wait to see myself in it! If all goes as planned, I should be out of the band within 8 weeks. Though I might want to keep wearing it if it looks really good… Well maybe just on special occasions…
Happy Birthday Daddy!
Happy Halloween!
Yucky peas!
Or as I call them, Satan's Nectar...
